Jeff Loomis - Zero Order Phase

Jeff Loomis - Zero Order Phase

Century Media Records
Just a few months after his bandmate Warrel Dane released a solo album, Nevermore guitarist Jeff Loomis unleashes his debut CD. Loomis plays guitar and bass on Zero Order Phase, with former Nevermore member Mark Arrington on drums.

Loomis' debut also features some guest appearances. Ron Jarzombek from Watchtower, Pat O'Brien from Cannibal Corpse, jazz musician Michael Manring and producer Neil Kernon all lend their talents to the instrumental CD.

Zero Order Phase showcases Loomis' excellent guitar skills. Technical riffs, creative solos and nonstep shredding dominate the proceedings. For the most part the songs don't sound like Nevermore tracks without vocals. There are heavy, driving songs that move along at warp speed along with more sparse and expressive tunes.

Solo guitar albums can get boring and repetitive in a big hurry, but Loomis injects different styles, tempos and tones, which adds diversity. Good melodies, memorable riffs and incredible soloing make Zero Order Phase a good instrumental guitar CD.

(released September 30, 2008 on Century Media Records)
