Utah isn't known as a heavy metal hotbed, but Katagory V may change that. The band's third album combines power, progressive and traditional metal. It has metal guitar riffs and soaring power metal hooks and choruses. The songs are very catchy, but also complex and allow for the showcasing of all the different instruments.
Curtis Morrell's vocals are strong, and he is able to sing both in a traditional rock/metal style and the higher pitched power metal style with more vibrato. The production on the album is crisp and clear without being sterile. If you're a power/prog metal fan, this is a CD worth checking out.
