Kittie - Funeral For YesterdayX Of Infamy Records
The Canadian band Kittie returns with a new lineup, a new label and a new album. The core of the band has always been Morgan and Mercedes Lander, and they've added guitarist Tara McLeod and bassist Trish Doan for their latest release. They've also started their own record label, X Of Infamy Records, to release Funeral For Yesterday.

Kittie's sound has changed dramatically since their early days. Their fourth CD is their most polished and most melodic to date. The songs are brimming with hooks and singalong choruses. Morgan Lander's vocal style has evolved as well. Most of the vocals on this CD are melodic singing, with only a few screaming vocals. The ratio of singing to screaming is probably about 90 percent to 10 percent, although the second half of the CD has much more screaming than the first. Her singing is good, and the mixing of screaming and singing provides a nice contrast in styles.

Whenever a band becomes less extreme and more melodic they are bound to draw some criticism and accusations of selling out, but Kittie maintains enough aggression, and to me the addition of more melodic vocals actually makes their songs more interesting.
