Klabautamann combines black metal with folk and progressive elements. They contrast harsh and dense black metal with softer and more introspective sections. Both styles are good on their own, and combined they are even more effective.
The mood and atmospheres shift along with the music. Obviously, the black metal sections are going to be dark and oppressive. But Klabautamann shifts moods during the acoustic parts as well. Some are upbeat and almost cheery, while others are more downcast and ominous.
The vocals are traditional black metal rasps, which are also used on some of the acoustic sections, making for an unusual sound. Our Journey Through The Woods is one black/folk metal fans may have missed the first time around, and it's a great way to get into Klabautamann while we await new material.
