Kotipelto has an excellent and powerful voice which is rightfully showcased here, and if you like Stratovarius you'll probably enjoy Serenity. It's melodic power metal with crunchy guitars, layers of keyboards and soaring vocals. There are some really strong songs here. "Angels Will Cry" has a memorable chorus and excellent guitar work and is one of the highlights of the album. Kotipelto shows his softer side on the ballad "After The Rain," which is not a Nelson cover.
Unfortunately, all the songs on the album are not memorable. A few of them are typical generic power metal that are skillfully played, but instantly forgettable because of the lack of hooks. However, overall this is a very solid album that will appeal to power metal fans, and especially to Stratovarius fans.
