Lordi - Get Heavy

The End Records
In the past couple of years Lordi has garnished a lot of international attention and success. They won the prestigious Eurovision song contest in 2006, and were part of Ozzfest in 2007. They are already huge in their native Finland, with a line of merchandise and a Lordi themed restaurant. In 2006 The Arockalypse was their introduction to most North American fans, and now their 2002 debut is being re-released.

The 2008 release of Get Heavy includes the original CD plus one bonus track. With the masks and makeup, Lordi looks like Gwar, but they sound more like Kiss or Alice Cooper. Their music is very melodic, with big hooks and singalong choruses. The songs are accessible, but still have plenty of heavy guitars and atmospheric keyboards.

Mr. Lordi is the the band's larger than life frontman and songwriter. He can write catchy songs, and even though the cheese factor is high, it's still really enjoyable. Get Heavy and Lordi themselves are over the top, but still a lot of fun.

(released May 13, 2008 on The End Records)
