Lyzanxia - Unsu

About.com Rating three out of Five

Lyzanxia - UnsuListenable Records
Even though they are from France, Lyzanxia sounds like they split time between Sweden and the Bay Area. Their latest album Unsu is a combination of thrash and melodic death metal.

The album is filled with catchy thrash riffs and solos along with more brutal death metal style elements. The songs, while very intense, are also very melodic. They also have some unusual titles such as "Ache Power Control" and "Strength Core," which may have to do with the fact that English isn't their first language.

In addition to playing guitar, brothers David and Franck Potvin also share vocal duties. They range from aggressive thrash style singing to more melodic singing to death metal growls and rasps to higher pitched screamo vocals. Producer Fredrik Nordstrom (In Flames, The Haunted) does a nice job making the album sound polished without losing Lyzanxia's edge and intensity.
