Malevolent Creation - Live At The Whisky A Go Go

Arctic Records
Last year original vocalist Bret Hoffman returned to Malevolent Creation for the long running death metal band's latest CD. Now, they go back to the archives for a live CD. Live At The Whisky A Go Go was recorded back in 1999 in Los Angeles with the band's original lineup of Hoffman, guitarists Rob Barrett and Phil Fasciana, bassist Gordy Simms and drummer Dave Culross.

Malevolent Creation was touring in support of 1998's The Fine Art Of Murder when this show was recorded, and the set list features five tracks from that album. Their back catalog is also well represented, as they play songs from 1991's The Ten Commandments, 1992's Retribution, 1995's Eternal, and 1996's Joe Black.

The sound quality on the CD is decent. Live death metal shows don't usually have crisp, crystal clear sound, and you wouldn't want that anyway. Live At The Whisky A Go Go is raw and sometimes a little muddy, but it captures the power and intensity of Malevolent Creation very well.

(released June 10, 2008 on Arctic Records)
