Marduk's first four albums are being re-released, and this was originally released in 1996. The albums have all been remastered with bonus material added. This one has four demo versions of songs on the CD.
Heaven Shall Burn...When We Are Gathered saw more lineup changes for Marduk. Erik "Legion" Hagstedt was the new vocalist, and would remain with the band for their next several albums.
This album is a relentless dose of black metal heresy. The songs are intricately composed, then topped with frenzied blast beats. The songs have more emotional diversity than musical variety. Marduk displays a range of emotions including anger, frustration, sadness, fear and downright evilness. Legion's vocals are also really strong.
I believe that Heaven Shall Burn...When We Are Gathered is the strongest of Marduk's first four albums. It has the best combination of memorable songs, quality musicianship, catchy riffs and brutality.
