Microwaves - Contagion HeuristicCrucial Blast Records
The Pittsburgh band Microwaves have had some lineup changes in the past couple years with former members now in Zombi and Don Caballero, but that hasn't slowed them down. As far as describing the band's sound, the press materials call it "avant trash," which is a pretty accurate name for a very unusual band.

Contagion Heuristic does not have typical songs with the verse, chorus, verse structure. Everything about the band and this CD is out of the ordinary. You will hear some doomy metal sounding guitar riffs, but they are accompanied by a cacophany of industrial and electronic beeps, buzzes and drones. You'll hear bits and pieces of metal, punk, math rock, industrial, drone, electronica and noisecore in Microwaves sonic palette.

The vocals on the CD are mainly spoken word and buried deep in the mix. You can hear talking, but can't really understand what they are saying. There's a little singing as well. Microwaves aren't for everyone. They are way out there and their style is very experimental, but they do some really interesting things and I found it a compelling listen.
