Ministry and Co-Conspirators - Cover Up

Thirteenth Planet Records
After nearly three decades, Al Jourgensen is pulling the plug on Ministry. They released their last proper studio CD last year, are doing a farewell tour, and are wrapping things up with a covers album.

Cover Up is a raucous CD packed with some of Jourgensen's favorite songs. He recruited some of his friends to help out, like Fear Factory's Burton C. Bell, Tommy Victor from Prong and Josh Bradford from Revolting Cocks. The songs are classic rock staples like "Under My Thumb" (Rolling Stones), "Bang A Gong" (T. Rex), "Roadhouse Blues" (Doors) "Mississippi Queen" (Mountain) and "Radar Love" (Golden Earring).

Ministry and company do pretty faithful renditions of the songs, adding a bit of an industrial vibe to some of them. Adding that vibe and some intense guitars to "Mississippi Queen" gives it more modern sound, and Victor's raspy vocals are perfect. ZZ Top's "Just Got Paid" with Jourgensen on vocals also gets a lot of added brutality. Cover Up won't end up being a classic Ministry CD, but it's a good way for the band to go out, having a lot of fun playing great songs on their terms.
