Quietly is more of a successor to Mouth Of The Architect's debut CD, which makes sense since Vernon was an important part of 2004's Time And Withering. The title Quietly describes the different approach the band took to songwriting this time around. The songs aren't necessarily mellow, but they build slowly and quietly so the intensity sort of sneaks up on you when it arrives.
Instead of thick groovy riffs, Mouth Of The Architect emphasizes ambiance and atmosphere. You'll still hear plenty of doom elements, but they are superseded by the experimental and progressive vibe of the CD. It's very dynamic, both in terms of intensity and density. Julie Christmas from Made Out Of Babies does guest vocals on the ten minute epic "Generation Of Ghosts," and her quirky and experimental style is the perfect fit.
Quietly isn't one of those CDs packed with hooks and singalong choruses. It's much more subtle and complex, and with each listen you'll appreciate the depth and layers Mouth Of The Architect has created.
