The Swedish black metal band Naglfar really hits their stride on their latest CD. It's the second CD with Kristoffer Olivius on vocals, and he really steps up his performance, which makes the whole band sound that much better.
Harvest is black metal with a lot of death metal influences. The music is extreme, but also very focused with a lot of melody. It has that dark and unsettling black metal vibe, but the songs are very well orchestrated with many memorable riffs.
As I mentioned previously, Olivius does an outstanding job on the vocals. He has a great evil sounding rasp, but you can also understand most of his lyrics. His delivery is dynamic, and not just monotonous screaming. This is an album that goes from majestic to barbaric and back again. It's a first rate melodic black metal album.
