Nefastus Dies - Urban Cancer

Candlelight Records
The Canadian band Nefastus Dies has been around since 2002, and their debut was originally released in 2006 on a small label. They've now signed with Candlelight Records and are working on new material. In the meantime, their first CD has been re-released.

Urban Cancer is black metal with death metal and melodic death metal influences. The usual black metal guitar style is there along with atmospheric keyboards and blast beats galore. Nefastus Dies also injects the aforementioned death metal, which adds groove and melody to the proceedings.

Ill-Fate (formerly of Ion Dissonance) is the band's vocalist, and his style ranges from low pitched death metal growls to high pitched black metal shrieks. He provides quite a bit of variety with his different styles and inflections. Urban Cancer is strongest on the four songs that are four and five minutes long. The other three are a lot longer, and lose a lot of momentum and quickly become repetitive and forgettable.

(released June 10, 2008 on Candlelight Records)
