Neuraxis - Live Progression

Galy Records
The Canadian technical death metal band Neuraxis has been shredding for over a decade. They've recently signed to a new record label, and this is their last release for Galy Records. Live Progression is not just a throwaway contract fulfilling album. It's the band's first ever live effort, and really captures their impressive live show.

The songs on Live Progression are a good representation of the Neuraxis catalog, with tracks ranging from their 1997 debut Imagery through their latest studio album, 2005's Trilateral Progression. When you see a lot of death metal bands live, their sound can be really muddy and indecipherable. That's not the case with Neuraxis. The production is remarkably clear, with all their brutality and technicality perfectly displayed. You can also hear plenty of crowd noise, adding to the ambience.

The album was recorded in Montreal, and the band's in between songs talking is in French. Neuraxis is a force to be reckoned with live, and Live Progression does a great job showcasing their musicianship and performance abilities.

(released January 8, 2008)
