Oceana - The Tide

Rise Records
It's been a quick ride for the Florida band Oceana. They've only been together since last August and got a record deal a couple months later. Most of the members knew each other from local bands and they brought in vocalist Keith from Washington.

The Tide blends metalcore and screamo. The songs are melodic, but have some edgy riffs and breakdowns. There are some technical parts, some groovy sections, and even some atmospheric and mellower parts.

The problem with a lot of screamo bands is that the vocals are one-dimensional. That's not the case with Oceana. While you'll hear plenty of high-pitched emotional yelling, Keith also delves into his lower register with angry growls. The melodic vocals are serviceable, and add more diversity and accessibility. The members of Oceana are still in their teens and have plenty of room for growth, and they are off to a good start with The Tide.
