Octavia Sperati - Grace SubmergedCandlelight Records
In the metal world a band with five females and one male is rather unusual, but that's the lineup of the Norwegian band Octavia Sperati, who have just released their second album.

Grace Submerged is gothic metal with influences of doom metal. The songs are harder edged than most gothic metal, but they are still very melodic and accessible. The downtuned doomy guitars add an extra element of darkness and bleakness to the atmosphere of the album. You'll hear similarities to groups like Evanescence, Lacuna Coil and Within Temptation.

Silje Wergeland is Octavia Sperati's vocalist, and she has a great voice. It has a clear tone and she sings with a lot of emotion and range. She really shines on "Don't Believe A Word," the Thin Lizzy song that's done as a piano ballad.

There are a ton of female fronted gothic metal bands, but Octavia Sperati is one that stands out because of the doom influence, the catchiness of their songs and the quality of the vocals.
