The End Of The Hour is nothing like Cannibal Corpse. Paths Of Possession takes a more melodic approach to death metal with groovy riffs and a variety of tempos. The music is intense, but not terribly brutal or extreme. It's also a concept album, although I'm a bit fuzzy on exactly what the concept is. The promo info describes it as "a concept album about the surreal horrors that one man experiences during war, death and the beyond that warps his very existence into a demigod-like awareness that may have the ability to consume life as we know it."
Corpsegrinder's vocals are generally higher pitched than his usual Cannibal Corpse delivery, although he dips down into cookie monster territory from time to time. His vocals are also completely understandable, which makes it a little easier to try to unravel the album's concept. Erik Rutan (Goatwhore, Nile, Cannibal Corpse) produces, and The End Of The Hour is a melodic and catchy death metal album.
