This is the debut album from the British black metal duo Primitive Graven Image, which consists of brothers Dokkalfur (lead vocals, drum programming, guitars, bass) and Ljosalfur (guitars, bass, vocals).
Traversing The Awesome Night is a thundering blast of thrashing black metal. Primitive Graven Image combines thrashy riffs and solos with traditional black metal harshness, dark atmosphere and evil.
The vocals are mostly shrill, black metal rasps, shrieks and screams. There are also some melodic chorale style background vocals that add a deeper, dark and ominous presence that nicely balance the screams. It's an album that's well crafted with a mix of icy emotion and cold but catchy melodies.
