This CD was released last year in Europe, and is now available in North America. Requiem are a death metal band from Switzerland who have been around for about a decade. Their latest effort was produced by Kataklym's Jean-Francois Dagenais, who has become a much sought after producer the past few years.
Government Denies Knowledge is a combination of European style death metal with old school U.S. death metal. Barrages of blast beats drive the frenzied and distorted guitar sound. Requiem also blends some thrash into many of the songs. The production is good, keeping a lot of rawness and extremity without becoming too muddy.
The vocals are standard death metal cookie monster fare. They don't offer a lot of diversity, but the music is diverse enough that it's not a major problem. It's a brutal effort and Requiem is a band death metal fans might want to check out.
