On his latest solo CD, keyboard wizard Derek Sherinian brings aboard a ton of guest musicians that make for an interesting and diverse effort. There are mainstream metal songs like "Man With No Name," featuring Zakk Wylde on guitar and vocals. There's also a cool cover of the classic Mungo Jerry song "In The Summertime" with Billy Idol on vocals and Slash on guitar.
The majority of the songs on this CD are instrumentals. There is a wide palette of styles, from jazzy and progressive to intense and technical. Some of the other guests include guitar god Yngwie Malmsteen, Night Ranger guitarist Brad Gillis and Sherinian's former Dream Theater bandmate John Petrucci.
Some of the instrumental tracks get a bit self-indulgent, but when musicians of this caliber get the chance to show their stuff, going a little over the top is a forgivable sin.
