Sigh was unhappy with the original production on Gallows Gallery, and had it remastered by James Murphy (Testament, Death). In addition to the original songs, there are several bonus tracks that are different mixes or versions of those songs.
Sigh are always experimenting with different musical approaches, and Gallows Gallery was very accessible and melodic. Strings, saxophones and bells add an unusual twist to their sound. The guitar work is excellent with some memorable solos. There are also a few organ solos that really stand out.
The vocals are exclusively melodic on this CD, with some effects added to a lot of them to add a different sound. The production was a big complaint on the original release, and this edition cleans up a lot of that. I prefer the harsher sounds of Hangmans Hymn, but Gallows Gallery has many enjoyable moments.
