Sirenia - Nine Destinies And A DownfallNuclear Blast Records
It's been three years since the last Sirenia album, and in that time the band has gone through some lineup changes. The Norwegian gothic metal band has added a new drummer, a new guitarist and a new vocalist.

The addition of Monika Pedersen (ex-Sinphonia) is the biggest change for the band. The Danish vocalist sings mostly in a traditional style instead of the more operatic fashion of previous vocalists. There are still some operatic and choral vocals, along with male harsh vocals.

The songs on Nine Destinies And A Downfall are lushly arranged with a lot of orchestral elements, but there are also plenty of crunchy guitars that give the music a bit of an edge. There are a lot of bands doing what Sirenia does, but they write songs that are very catchy and memorable with great hooks that make them stand out. If you like gothic metal in the vein of groups like Lacuna Coil, The Gathering or Leaves Eyes this will be right up your alley.
