Society's Finest - And I, The Drunkards

About.com Rating three out of Five

By Chad Bowar, About.com

Hand Of Hope Records
Society's Finest has been around for nearly a decade, but it's just been in the past couple years they've really hit their stride. Their latest release is metalcore, but is more than just screaming and breakdowns. You'll hear those in abundance, but you'll also hear a lot of catchy riffs and some melodic singing.

The vocals are angry, but the topics covered in the songs are thoughtful and passionate. The problem with a lot of metalcore albums is that it comes at you so hard and fast that it starts to sound the same. Society's Finest are able to build up the intensity, kick you in the face for a while, back it down, and then begin the barrage again. That makes an album much more palatable for the listener. The production by Andrea Magnusson (Scarlet) is also top-notch.
