In their two decades of existence they have faced turmoil, adversity and tragedy. From serious injuries in van accidents to murder, and the death in 2006 in Hurricane Katrina of former vocalist Gene Rambo, Soilent Green has gone through a lot and kept moving forward. For their fifth full-length CD they've left their long time record label and signed with Metal Blade.
Inevitable Collapse In The Presence Of Conviction is the cathartic and emotional tale of the band's history of struggle and the message that life doesn't always have a happy ending. Soilent Green's strength is their riffs, and this CD is packed with memorable ones. Their music has always combined doom and sludge with death metal and grindcore, and this is no exception. Ben Falgoust (who's also the vocalist for Goatwhore) has a distinctive style, and his angry rasps add an extra level of emotion to the songs. Erik Rutan again produces, and there's not a lot of new musical ground broken on Inevitable Collapse In The Presence Of Conviction, but Soilent Green delivers a rock solid effort.
