Sworn To A Great Divide finds Soilwork continuing to write very melodic and catchy songs with a lot of memorable hooks. On this album, however, there seems to be a renewed focus on also writing strong riffs to go along with the melodies. The result is a collection of songs that are more aggressive and intense than their last album, but still have a lot of accessibility and mass appeal.
Bjorn "Speed" Strid delivers a combination of angry screaming vocals and melodic singing. His melodic singing has been improving with every release, and he displays an excellent range and a lot of versatility. The vocals on the album were produced by Devin Townsend.
Sworn To A Great Divide is a natural evolution forward with added emphasis on some things that were underutilized on the last record. There are those who want Soilwork to return to the sound of their first couple albums, but their current balance of melody and aggression is very appealing.
