Stinking Lizaveta - Scream Of The Iron IconoclastAt A Loss Recordings
Even though their name sounds like a cheese gone bad, the Philadelphia instrumental trio Stinking Lizaveta's music is sweet indeed. Their fifth album was recorded and mixed by the legendary Steve Albini, who did a great job capturing the band's unique sound.

Scream Of The Iron Iconoclast is an hour long trip that takes you from the dark sludgy bottom of the swamp to the trippy top of the mountain. The main vibe of the album is stoner/doom metal, but Stinking Lizaveta inject everything from prog rock to acid rock to jazz to middle eastern sounds. The songs weave and groove, slow down and speed up, and go from simple riffs to complex noodling.

16 songs may be too many for a single album from this group. The momentum starts to slow toward the end of the disc, but it's still an interesting, varied and sometimes trippy ride through many different genres.
