Memory Of A Dream has a lot of mellow instrumental sections that are progressive and almost new age sounding. They also have more intense metal songs that are dense and forbidding. There's a good variety in styles, but in most cases it's style over substance. The musicianship is good and the songs are very complex, but there aren't many hooks or riffs that stand out or are memorable.
The vocals on the album are sometimes raspy and harsh, other times melodic. The production is very good, balancing the need for heaviness with the ability to hear all that's going on with the instruments. But in the end, even though there are some compelling things going on throughout the album, it didn't hold my interest and just faded into the background for me.
