Unearth is a metalcore band, with the emphasis on the metal. Their third release is uncompromising and unrelenting. Even though a lot of their contemporaries are doing it, Unearth refuses to add melodic vocals to their sound just to fit in with the masses.
III: In The Eyes Of Fire is wall to wall intensity and aggression, but they also manage to insert some melodic hooks and catchy riffs without resorting to the poppy singalong chorus. Guitarists Ken Susi and Buz McGrath transition between breakneck technical riffs, slower groove oriented parts and of course the mandatory breakdowns. Vocalist Trevor Phipps goes from measured intensity to full out howling. It's a brutal album, but one that is also very accessible.
