Unexpect - In A Flesh AquariumThe End Records
This is one of those CDs that you pop in and wonder, "What the hell is this?" It's completely unique and very bizarre. A broadway musical on acid and performed in hell is the closest I can come to describing it. It's very melodramatic and atmospheric, and also dark. Cookie monster vocals duet with ethereal operatic female vocals and there are spoken word narrations in addition to the screaming and singing.

The music is progressive and almost classical at times, but there are plenty of loud guitars and elements of black and death metal. If you had to put a genre on Unexpect I suppose avant-garde metal would be the closest, but that doesn't fully describe the incredible range of styles on this CD. It's an acquired taste, but after a few listens you start to appreciate the complexity and pure insanity that went into creating this music.
