Vorkuta are a Hungarian black metal band who have appeared on split and limited CDs, but this is their first full-length release. Even though they are physically far removed from Norway, musically they are right in the middle of the home of black metal.
Into The Chasms Of Lunacy has a lot of old school black metal influences, but much better production. It's a well done and reasonably diverse effort. Some songs are mostly instrumentals, soft, moody and melodic with an air of forbidding darkness provided by keyboards and synths. Others are harsh and cold with bitter sounding guitars and the typical black metal rasps. I think a few less instrumentals and a little more vocal presence would have made the album even better.
