Vreid is a black metal band from Norway that formed in 2004. Three of its members were formerly in Windir, which disbanded after the death of founder Valfar. Vocalist/guitarist Sture (Sture Dingsøyr, bassist Hvàll (Jarle Kvåle)and drummer Steingrim (Jørn Holen) were joined by guitarist Ese. This is Vreid's third CD.
Vreid's I Krig combines the rawness and song structures of black metal with the melodies and groove of rock. There are also thrash and folk metal influences on a few of the songs. And any album that opens with song that uses cowbell has got to be good, right?
The vocals are black metal rasps, and the lyrics are delivered in the band's native Norwegian. Vreid has concocted a powerful combination of darkness and catchiness, and I Krig is a memorable black metal album.
