There are tons of guest musicians on Prominence and Demise, including Lars Nedland (Borknagar), Agnete M. Kirkevaag (Madder Mortem), Dan Swano (Edge Of Sanity), Oystein Moe (Ulver) and musicians from the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra. As you would expect, this is a grand epic album. The songs incorporate the edgy guitars of metal with the complexity and musicianship of prog and the orchestral grandness of classical.
The songs are progressive and avant-garde that stretch musical boundaries. The problem with a lot of this style of music is that you can appreciate it, but you can't really get into it. That's not the case with Winds. The songs are engaging and memorable, sometimes bombastic and loud, other times more subdued and quiet.
The vocals are really diverse because of the several guest vocalists. They range from ethereal female vocals to gruff male vocals to melodic singing. Prominence and Demise is an excellent progressive metal album.
