When you think of extreme metal hotbeds, places like Sweden, Norway and Florida might come to mind. Indiana is not the first place you'd look for an extreme metal band, but if Year Of Desolation is any indication, record labels might want to send a talent scout to Indianapolis.
Year Of Desolation is the band's second album, and it's a perfect blend of destruction and melody. Their music is a brutal cocktail of thrash, death metal and grindcore. It's an album with something for everyone. There is a lot of melody and catchy riffs, but there's also barrages of blast beats and breakneck tempos.
The vocals are also extreme, but have a decent amount of diversity. Chad Zimmerman's style ranges from hardcore screams to death metal growls to black metal rasps. Year Of Desolation does a great job tempering the brutality and intensity with really memorable hooks, and their self-titled CD should appeal to a wide variety of extreme metal fans.
