Zoroaster's sound has expanded since their self-titled EP. The songs are dark, doomy and sludgy, but have a surprising amount of variety. "Brazen Bull" is the second track on the album, and the shortest, clocking in at about 6 minutes. It's fast and catchy with memorable guitar riffs. Other songs are the complete opposite: slow and thundering epics over 10 minutes long with crushing guitars that slowly and efficiently destroy everything in their path.
The best songs on Dog Magic are a combination of those two styles. They have an ebb and flow, rising and falling in speed and intensity, grabbing the listener and taking them on a long, strange but very enjoyable trip. Zoroaster come out of the gate in impressive style, delivering a memorable slab of southern-fried doom.
