Guide Review - Amorphis - Eclipse

It's always a risky proposition when a band changes vocalists, especially when a band has been around as long as Finland's Amorphis. Pasi Koskinen left after their last album, and the new vocalist is Tomi Joutsen (Sinisthra).

Even with such a big change, Amorphis didn't miss a beat. As a matter of fact, this is a step up from their last album. Joutsen fits right in with his emotional vocals. His melodic vocals are adequate, and his growling vocals are superb.

Their music is majestic and melodic with complex, almost progressive sounding songs. Dual guitars create a wall of sound, and the keyboards provide atmosphere. After a few missteps, Amorphis has returned to form, combining traditional metal with elements of death, goth and folk metal.
