Guide Review - Keep Of Kalessin - Armada

The Norwegian underground black metal band Keep Of Kalessin has been around for over a decade, but this is their first exposure to North America. It's about time. Their brand of black metal is fast, brutal, and evil. Blackened thrash riffs are played at breakneck speed, but they also manage to sustain a lot of melody.

Vocally it's the standard black metal style rasp, but it's a little more understandable than some. Guitarist Obsidian C is the star of this show. The former Satyricon shredder delivers some really creative riffs and melodies. Their style leans more toward the old school, but the production is crystal clear and modern, which adds a nice balance. Black metal fans will want to check this one out.
