Guide Review - Mastery - Lethal Legacy

When the Toronto, Canada band Mastery formed, they planned on having a vocalist. They auditioned several, but couldn't find one that could meet the challenge. I think they made the right choice. They are much better as a technically superior instrumental band that is somewhat unique than if they were just another metal band with a mediocre vocalist.

Mastery's music is influenced by old school thrash like Metallica and Megadeth with blistering riffs and searing solos, but they also add some progressive elements and modern touches. Their musicianship is outstanding and after the first song you don't notice the lack of vocals, you just pay attention to their great playing. Of course this is just a 6 song EP. Translating that and sustaining interest for an hour long full-length is a much more difficult proposition, but I look forward to hearing what they can do.
