Guide Review - Shades Of Dusk - Caress The Despair
On their debut album the Montreal, Canada band Shades Of Dusk sounds like they could be from Sweden. Their brand of melodic death metal is influenced by groups like In Flames and At The Gates.
It's a strong debut album. The songs are melodic with some fantastic riffs and the musicianship is flawless. There is also a lot of vocal diversity. Joffrey Chouinard varies his death metal growl in both pitch and intensity, going from a low pitched rumble to a high pitched rasp. It adds a lot of diversity to the band's sound.
