Guide Review - She Said Destroy - Time Like Vines

On their debut album the Norwegian band She Said Destroy defies simple categorization. One thing they are is extreme, but they get there in many different ways. You'll hear speed metal, death metal, black metal, and even some mellow progressive metal sections.

The vocals on the album are mostly death metal style, but there are some higher pitched black metal vocals in a few places. Some of the songs are very complex with a lot of tempo and style changes, but others are simple but effective metal songs.

One thing I like about this band is that they can be equally brutal on the slow plodding songs, the midtempo ones and the ones played at breakneck speed. And even more impressive is that in addition to being brutal, there are actually many subtle parts to this record. It takes a lot of skill to balance the delicate with the extreme, and they have accomplished this difficult feat.
