Guide Review - Spitfire - Self-Help

After a four year hiatus, Spitfire has reformed with a new album. Their only full-length album was released back in 1999, and they had an EP in 2001, The group is now a quintet and have added guitarist Scottie Henry (Norma Jean) and Dan Tulloh (Scarlet). Jon Spencer (Scarlet) is still the vocalist.

Musically Spitfire is very solid. They play a very technical style that mixes metal riffs and hardcore breakdowns. The songs themselves have a decent variety. Spencer's hardcore style yelling vocals are very emotional and raw, but don't have much range. They sound almost identical in pitch and delivery on every single song, which gets very monotonous.
