Guide Review - Summoning - Oath Bound

The Austrian duo Summoning has been been making music based on the writings of J.R.R. Tolkien for over ten years. One of the selling points of their latest release is that for the first time ever a song has been recorded in the black tongue of the Orcs. Not knowing much about Tolkien I could give a rat's ass about that, but what I do know is that this is a good album.

Silenius and Protector create a soundscape of atmospheric keyboards, bombastic synthesized drums and black metal guitar riffs. Add the raspy black metal style vocals and you have an album that's both orchestral and guttural. The songs are mini epics of 8 to 12 minutes long that take the listener on an enjoyable aural journey through Middle Earth.
