Guide Review - The Wake - Death-A-Holic

Finland is a metal hotbed right now. Tons of new bands are coming out of there, and most have some sort of melodic edge, whether it be death or mainstream metal. The Wake have been around for a while, but this only their second full-length album, and the first to be released in North America.

They play melodic death metal in the traditional Gothenburg style. There are some impressive guitar riffs and solos throughout the album, but the songs need more memorable hooks and melodies. The vocals could also use more diversity. They are intense, but it's the same scream throughout the whole thing. This is definitely a band to keep an eye on. They have potential, but need to step things up.
