Guide Review - Thyrane - Travesty Of Heavenly Essence
After doing some experimenting on their last album, Thyrane has returned to the symphonic black metal of their earlier releases. It is a welcome return. They've also trimmed their membership by 1 to become a quartet, but there is no loss in intensity.
The songs on this album are very symphonic with a lot of melodic death metal influences. It has the speed and riffs of death metal, but also the atmosphere and bleakness of black metal. The vocals are raspy and buried in the mix.
The songwriting on this album is first rate. It's sophisticated and technical with a lot of subtlety, but also very melodic while retaining the intensity and darkness that it needs.
