Guide Review - Viking Skull - Born In Hell

Various members and crew of the UK band Raging Speedhorn decided to form a side project. The band's guitar tech Roddy Stone is Viking Skull's guitarist and raspy voiced lead singer. They played a few club gigs, people liked what they heard, and a few years later we have their full-length debut album. It got rave reviews in the UK last fall when it was released there and drew the attention of Carson Daly and Bam Margera's 456 Entertainment. As HIM can attest, Margera's favor can be very beneficial. We'll see if it translates to Viking Skull.

Their brand of metal is old school, in the vein of Motorhead crossed with Black Sabbath. You'll hear a stoner influence along with elements of New Wave Of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM). They play sleazy, gritty riffs with a twinkle in their eye and a beer in their hand. The lyrics are over the top, with ridiculous titles like "Beers Drugs and Bitches." It's a fun and entertaining album.
