As expected, Towards The Megalith is unbelievably heavy and dense. Leaning heavily on a plodding, doom laden approach, the sheer weight given to the riffs delivered by band founders/ guitarists Bill Venner and Daryl Kahan anchors Disma deep within the depths of dark death metal, a feeling only reinforced by Pillard’s deep seated growls and Randi Stokes’ thick, dripping bass.
The pace of Towards The Megalith is generally slow and periodically flirts with the glacial creep of funeral doom, but Towards The Megalith is much more with a range of tempos including a few blasts. Undoubtedly, comparisons between Towards The Megalith and old Incantation albums can be made, as Incantation serves as the obvious source material.
Disma, however, are not merely a clone, a description made obvious by Disma completing the devastation with varied songwriting that evokes the twin pillars of death metal and doom.
Towards The Megalith is not a game changer, if such an idea can exist in death metal these days, but the hype is warranted as Disma very much ring true within the hallowed halls of OSDM, a genre looked upon as especially pure in the splintered death metal scene.
About as close to a genre classic as can be attained at this stage in the game, Towards The Megalith is required listening for fans of seriously devastating death metal.
