Guide Review - Hirax - Thrash Til Death DVD

Hirax got their start in the early '80s and released a few albums before disbanding. During the '80s they had a ton of lineup changes and a few more reunions before calling it quits. In the late '90s they got together again and released a comeback CD in 2004.

This DVD was filmed at the Minneapolis Mayhem Festival in 2005, and the only member still in the band now is frontman Katon De Pena. Hirax is an underground style thrash band, and this DVD reflects that. It's raw and simple with marginal sound quality and terrible video. There are long passages where all you see is a black screen because the stage lighting wasn't set up with DVD filming in mind.

But even with those limitations it's still a good DVD. There is a lot of bonus footage from various festivals around the world and an interview. A lot of younger thrash fans might not be familiar with Hirax, and this is a good introduction.
