Chad Bowar: How did you get started in music?
Langvall: I started playing piano at the age of 7 and took lessons for 12 years where I also played some heavy Chopin stuff. Then I learned bass and guitar by myself and went to the American Institute of Music in Vienna, where I studied rock guitar. I grew up with classical music and came to metal at the age of 14 or 15. From that point on when I started to write songs I wanted to bring those styles together. I love classical composers like Anton Bruckner, Antonin Dvorak and Richard Strauss. In hard rock/metal it´s bands like Dream Theater, Threshold, Royal Hunt, Ropbbie Valentine, Shadow Gallery and Marillion I love. I also love soundtracks, artists like Vangelis and of course music from foreign cultures. This results in my love for exotic string instruments.

Was there a song or album that inspired you to want to perform music?
There wasn´t a special song or album but when I heard Tony MacAlpine´s Maximum Security album it was clear for me that I wanted to play guitar.

Who are some current artists you admire?
I really love Neal Schon (Journey) and John Petrucci among many others. Although I have to say that good songs and compositions always impress me more than good guitar solos.

What’s your all time favorite album?
Dream Theater – Images and Words

What’s the metal scene like in Austria?
There is no real scene in Austria. It´s much too small and just a few bands are reaching beyond the frontiers of Austria. There are also not too many venues where you can play, but anyway Austria is very connected to Germany.

Do you have a day job?
No, I´ve been only doing Edenbridge for 8 years now.

What do you hate?
People that are senselessly killing animals.

Who are your heroes (either personal or musical)?
I don´t have heroes but a composer I would mention is Anton Bruckner, a famous Austrian composer of the late Romantic period.

What are the best and worst things about being in a band?
The best thing is definintely the music itself and the good apsects of touring (meeting your fans, the live show itslef and visiting other countries). The worst thing ? Maybe the time you have to kill between 2 shows on tour and shitty venues, which you see a lot.

What's your worst habit?
I don´t know, maybe I am too pedantic on important things and too lazy on (for me) unimportant things.

What CD do you own that people might be surprised about?
To name a few: Celine Dion, Abba, Faith Hill.
