Band History:

Finntroll is a Finnish folk metal band with traditional humppa influences. The band started in 1997 and released their debut Midnattens Widunder in 1999. The band has faced adversity over the years, including the death of founding guitarist Somnium and the departure of vocalist Katla because of a throat problem. They have no original members, but continue to soldier on.

Essential Album:

Ur Jordens Djup
This album features new vocalist Vreth, and is a little darker and heavier than some of their past releases. It combines intense heavy metal with Finnish polkas called "humppa." Finntroll moves easily between ominous, driving black metal and lighter, upbeat folk/polka.
