Lord Ahriman Interview

By , About.com Guide

Chad Bowar: How has the band's sound evolved over the years?
Lord Ahriman: It has become more serious, mature, emotional and personal for us individually, at least. It has also become darker, more symphonic, atmospheric and aggressive I think.

What does the album title Attera Totus Sanctus signify?
The title means “Destroy the holy” and it symbolise both our anti-religious views as well as the hate we have been fueled with during the last couple of years. Basically, we’ve just had it with everything. And if you stand in our way, we’ll destroy you!

Do you anticipate doing any touring in the US in 2006?
Yeah, we can’t wait to tour the US (again). At this point of time I don’t know exactly when we will be coming overseas, but as soon as the right tour offer comes up, we’ll come. Hopefully that will be sooner rather than later.

Are you surprised that in this day and age music in your genre is being banned by some countries?
Yes. I mean, this whole debate, whether metal is good, bad or even dangerous, should be old and buried a long time ago. So far it hasn’t proven anything other than that it is as low, pathetic, unrealistic and stupid as it can get. But at the same time music, and especially metal, have always been an easy target. And as soon as the politicians have been out of solutions of their problems it has, unfortunately, always served as a scapegoat. Get a life I’d say!

Are you currently working on any side projects?
Not right now, but I hope to get together to write and record the much delayed full-length album with Wolfen Society sometime during 2006. If you haven’t heard about this project it’s a band featuring members from Acheron, Incantation, The Electric Hellfire Club and myself. We released a MCD entitled Conquer Divine back in 2001, but we got all ripped off by No Fashion (Nowadays NEG), who did nothing whatsoever to support us or promote it. It’s such a pity, as it’s a killer MCD. We do however plan to re-release it eventually. Other than that I’m talking to some other people/musicians about doing some projects together. And I guess the future will show what will happen with that. Caligula (Dark Funeral's vocalist) is doing a project called God Among Insects and Chaq Mol (the band's guitarist) has a band together with his wife called Mordichrist.

Are you able to make a living playing music, or do you have a day job?
Right now we are all forced to have a side job. And it’s due to the fact that our former label No Fashion Records (Nowadays NEG) didn’t pay out any royalties to us. They have even stolen the publishing rights. So we basically get no income whatsoever from the record sales. However, things are about to change. We’re currently bringing them to court, suing them for all what they’re worth. It’s payday!
